Part 3 · Two-way Discussion
Discussion on Daily Transport Habits, Urban Mobility Challenges, and the Future of Transportation
Trong Part 3, thí sinh cần thể hiện khả năng thảo luận trừu tượng ở góc độ xã hội, không chỉ kể trải nghiệm cá nhân. Hãy dùng các cụm như People generally..., In many countries..., It is often argued that... để mở rộng quan điểm.
Mỗi câu trả lời nên kéo dài 3–5 câu, bao gồm: (1) câu trả lời trực tiếp, (2) lý do hoặc ví dụ xã hội, (3) so sánh hoặc dự đoán, (4) kết luận ngắn.
Tránh chỉ kể chuyện cá nhân — hãy dùng People generally..., Previous generations....
Từ vựng: urbanisation (đô thị hóa), car ownership (việc sở hữu ô tô), shared mobility (di chuyển chia sẻ), spatial planning (quy hoạch không gian).
Over the past few decades, daily transport habits in many countries have shifted dramatically, largely driven by urbanisation and rising incomes. Whereas previous generations relied heavily on walking, cycling, or public buses, a growing proportion of people now depend on private cars and ride-hailing services. This transformation has been fuelled by the expansion of suburban housing, which makes car ownership almost a necessity rather than a luxury. At the same time, younger generations appear increasingly open to shared mobility and electric vehicles, suggesting that the trend may gradually reverse. Ultimately, transport habits tend to mirror a society's economic priorities and spatial planning.
Dạng câu hỏi: Phân tích hai mặt và đưa ra quan điểm cân bằng.
Cách tiếp cận: Dùng On the one hand... On the other hand..., sau đó kết luận bằng Therefore, the wiser approach is....
Từ vựng: induce demand (tạo thêm nhu cầu), mass transit (giao thông công cộng khối lượng lớn), disproportionately (một cách không cân đối), well-integrated (tích hợp tốt).
On the one hand, building new roads may offer short-term relief by increasing capacity and reducing immediate congestion. On the other hand, evidence from many cities suggests that extra road space often induces additional demand, meaning traffic simply expands to fill the new capacity. Investing in public transport, by contrast, can move far more people per unit of space and tends to benefit lower-income groups disproportionately. That said, public transport only works when it is reliable, affordable, and well-integrated with cycling and walking networks. Therefore, the wiser approach is arguably a balanced strategy that prioritises mass transit while selectively upgrading road infrastructure.
Dạng câu hỏi: Phân tích tác động tâm lý – xã hội (liệt kê hệ quả).
Cách tiếp cận: Nêu 2–3 hệ quả cụ thể (stress, sleep, social ties), rồi mở rộng sang hàm ý chính sách. Dùng take a toll on, at the expense of để tăng tính tự nhiên.
Từ vựng: take a toll on (gây tổn hại), at the expense of (đánh đổi bằng), erode (bào mòn), logistical concern (vấn đề hậu cần).
Long daily commutes tend to take a toll on both mental and physical well-being. Studies consistently show that extended commuting is associated with higher stress levels, reduced sleep quality, and lower overall life satisfaction. From a social perspective, time spent in transit often comes at the expense of family interaction, community participation, and leisure, which can weaken social ties over time. Moreover, commuters who rely on overcrowded public transport may experience a sense of loss of control, which further erodes well-being. Consequently, urban planners increasingly treat commute time as a public health issue rather than a mere logistical concern.
Dạng câu hỏi: Dự đoán xu hướng tương lai (liệt kê + giải thích).
Cách tiếp cận: Nêu 1–2 xu hướng chính, dùng câu điều kiện loại 2 (If autonomous fleets became...) để thể hiện ngữ pháp B2+. Kết bằng lưu ý về rủi ro bất bình đẳng.
Từ vựng: autonomous vehicles (xe tự hành), commercially viable (khả thi về thương mại), access over ownership (dùng thay vì sở hữu), widening inequalities (bất bình đẳng gia tăng).
It seems plausible that urban transport will be dominated by electric, autonomous, and shared vehicles within a few decades. Two trends are likely to drive this shift: tightening environmental regulations and rapid advances in battery and sensor technology. If autonomous fleets become commercially viable, private car ownership may decline sharply, especially among younger urban dwellers who already favour access over ownership. That said, such a future depends heavily on political will, infrastructure investment, and public acceptance. Without deliberate planning, the benefits could remain concentrated in wealthy districts, widening existing inequalities.
Dạng câu hỏi: Đề xuất giải pháp (chính sách).
Cách tiếp cận: Đề xuất 2–3 nhóm giải pháp (pricing, investment, regulation), đưa ví dụ thành phố cụ thể để tăng tính thuyết phục. Dùng proven effective, reinvested into, accelerate the shift.
Từ vựng: congestion charge (phí ùn tắc), low-emission zone (vùng phát thải thấp), coherent strategy (chiến lược nhất quán), accelerate the shift (đẩy nhanh sự chuyển dịch).
Governments could pursue a combination of pricing, investment, and regulation to steer behaviour towards sustainability. Congestion charges and carbon taxes, for instance, have proven effective in cities such as London and Stockholm at reducing private car use. At the same time, revenues from such charges can be reinvested into reliable bus and rail networks, dedicated cycling lanes, and pedestrian-friendly zones. Regulation also matters: strict emission standards and low-emission zones can accelerate the shift to cleaner vehicles. Ultimately, sustainable transport requires not just technological fixes but a coherent long-term strategy that aligns urban planning, taxation, and public expectations.
